High Gear® Suits in the Field

Hello, if we have not met yet — I'm Tony Blauer, founder of Blauer Tactical Systems.
For more than four decades, I have been teaching self-defense, defensive tactics, and combatives training all over the world. I have taught this work to more than half a million people, including thousands of martial arts, self-defense, military combatives, and law-enforcement defensive-tactics instructors.
Originally, our focus was training military and law enforcement, but now it reaches far beyond the tactical community. Through SPEAR CARE®, a trauma-informed model, we also serve the medical and psychiatric communities. And our unique approach to managing fear via KNOW FEAR® is also being applied by psychologists and clinicians, as well as entrepreneurs, business leaders, sports teams, coaches, and parents.
But this site — and these programs — are not about occupation…
They are about helping you, your family, your team, and the people you care about become safer.
Welcome to Blauer Tactical Systems, where we make good humans safer.
“When the history of this Warrior Renaissance is written, Tony Blauer will be remembered as one of the great pioneers who propelled us forward to the next evolutionary step in warriorhood.”
Lt. Col. Dave Grossman
U.S. Army (Ret.) — author of On Killing
“Tony Blauer's research on fear management has proven more effective for some of my clients than any of the material I have learned in 20 years of practicing psychology.”
Dr. Jeff DeTeso
Psychologist, 20+ years in practice

How can one self-defense system make every one of these people safer?

One Nervous System.
One Self-defense System.
Every person in the photo — regardless of gender, occupation, or experience — has the same biology, physiology, kinesiology, and psychology. That includes you too.
If you're on this page, I don't need to tell you that fear, danger, and violence exist. That's why you're here. You're doing research.
Aside from how our biology and psychology connect us, none of us wants to get hurt, injured, or worse — going to work, school, traveling, and so on.
Some jobs put us in harm's way, others don't, but learning the most natural way to protect yourself is simply smart.
A safer world, one person, family, team, and organization at a time.
The MissionTo honor the human survival system by developing practical, instinctive strategies that enhance emotional, psychological, and physical safety.
How We Make It HappenWe make the world safer by working with human biology, not against it — leveraging the body's natural responses to danger and transforming instinct into intelligent action.
Combining neuroscience, fear management, and movement research, we deliver training grounded in how humans actually perform under stress.
We teach individuals and organizations to act decisively and courageously when it matters most — because real survival isn't about overriding your wiring, it's about leveraging it.

Understanding the science that underpins the SPEAR System®
We'll teach you how to convert the flinch and turn fear into fuel.
In the 1980s, Coach Blauer was trying to make sense of complex martial arts and self-defense systems that relied on fine motor skills — and something wasn't working. He asked the question: what does your body want to do before anyone trains it? What does it do instinctively, does that movement have a protective application, and if it does, why aren't we using it?
That hypothesis became the thesis statement of a breakthrough program that revolutionized self-defense.
SPEAR is the acronym for Spontaneous Protection Enabling Accelerated Response — the only self-defense program built entirely around the central nervous system.
The startle-flinch response is a spinal reflex that can be anatomically defined via alpha and gamma motor neurons and sensory system neurons within the different systems of the body, i.e. auditory, touch and vision. (pages 36–42)
“Extensor strength is engaged to disengage from noxious stimuli via the cross extensor spinal level reflex and flexor reflex which is also at the spinal level. These are engaged at different rates depending on the mode of stimuli but they are uniform across the human species regardless of age and training.” (page 42)
The SPEAR System® is the first holistic approach to personal safety that uses natural, instinctive movement and helps people convert the startle-flinch into a protective, legal, and ethical response.
The Know Fear® program is the only fear management program that focuses on the psychology of fear instead of the physiology of fear, AKA the fight, flight, freeze model. Fear becomes the fuel for the fight.
“A comprehensive holistic system… in my opinion, the equivalent of Einstein's E = MC² for the self-defense field.”
