A vow made at 12 years old
Every milestone below traces the path from a single helpless moment to a system now credited with impacting over 500,000 lives.
The Day Everything Changed
I was 12 years old when I got jumped. Three older kids. I didn't see it coming. I couldn't fight back. I felt helpless, terrified, and humiliated. That raw, primal fear never left me — but instead of letting it control me, I made a vow: I would never feel that helpless again.
The Search for Answers
Like every kid in the '70s, I was obsessed with Bruce Lee. I devoured martial arts magazines, studied every technique, trained relentlessly. But the more I trained, the more I realized something was missing — the techniques didn't address the startle, the flinch, the freeze. There was a gap between the threat and the first technique. In that gap, people got hurt.
"I Want to Make the World Safer"
At 20, I was introduced to a venture capitalist. He asked what I wanted to do. I said: "I want to make the world safer." I explained my vision — a self-defense system based on kinesiology, neurobiology, and psychology, that works for anyone regardless of age, gender, or ability. He called it "a little grandiose." The meeting was over.
The SPEAR System® Is Born
The world's first behaviorally-based self-defense system. Not a martial art — a bridge to your next move, built on how the human body naturally responds under threat. It became the foundation for training Tier One military units, law enforcement agencies, martial arts schools, and families worldwide.

The Core Belief
"Your body already knows how to protect you. My job is to help you recognize it, trust it, and enhance it."
That scared 12-year-old discovered something profound: the answer wasn't learning more techniques. It was understanding what the body already does naturally under threat — and working with it, not against it. That kid is now in his sixties. The work isn't done. Every person who learns to manage fear and protect themselves is another victory over violence.
